Root Canals
No one should have to live with persistent tooth pain. Our dentist may recommend a root canal procedure for patients who experience swelling or severe pain in the roots of their teeth. This treatment lets you keep your natural tooth while eliminating pain and discomfort.
When Is a Root Canal Needed?
A root canal is often necessary when a tooth becomes infected, causing persistent pain and gum inflammation. Signs that you may need this treatment include swelling around the affected tooth and deep, lingering discomfort. A root canal can save the tooth and prevent the need for extraction.
How a Root Canal Procedure Works
During the procedure, your dentist will remove the infected pulp from inside the tooth by creating a small opening and carefully cleaning out the root canals. Once cleaned, the space is filled to prevent future infection. Since the procedure reduces the tooth’s structure, a dental crown is typically recommended to restore strength and function.
